The Three Phases of Your Digital Presence

Updated: Aug 13, 2019

Often I find that most businesses, small businesses in particular, are overwhelmed and lost when trying to figure out a digital strategy for their business. Although it can seem confusing and often times overwhelming, by breaking down your entire businesses digital strategy into 3 phases, it will be a lot easier to understand and implement. After dealing with many clients and doing hundreds of hours of research, I was able to put together the 3 phase program that not only simplifies the process, but it also applies to every business and industry. So, without further adieu, let's begin!

Phase 1: A Strong Foundation is Necessary!

A Strong Foundation is Required for a Successful Digital Presence

Every company needs to have their "central platform". Just like having a physical place of business, your website is what I like to call your "digital real estate". This is where people go to find out more information, and ultimately make a decision to do business with you or not.

In the beginning, it is easy to want to make things go asfastaspossible to get your idea, product, or business out in the world. However, if this process is rushed or corners are cut, it will undoubtedly put a hinder on your online performance. So, before anything, you will need to sit down, and in some cases, literally draw out and discuss exactly what you want your customers/clients to see, feel, and interact with when they visit your site.

Taking the time to figure out exactly what you want i.e. theme, layout, content, etc. will be imperative before reaching out to a company to get your site built. For example, companies like The HOTspot offer free questionnaires to help you understand what to think about when planning your website. Click here for the free document!

Phase 2: Social Media & SEO

Picking the Appropriate Social Media is an Extremely Important Decision!

The next phase is just as important, if not more so, than the first phase. If your website or central platform is your "digital real estate", then your social media is the "digital personality" of your business. When choosing your social media platforms, you may find yourself asking, "What platforms do I really need?" A good way to find the answer to this question is by asking your current customers what their favorite platforms are, or by going to your competition's website and seeing what platforms they are using.

The next part of phase 2 can be a little complicated. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the position your site ranks on Google's search results. For example, if you look up "Website building in Foley, Alabama" companies that build websites, like The HOTspot, will be listed out. The one with the more relevant content will rank higher on the page. There are many aspects to SEO work (a separate blog post will be made just for SEO).

So, in phase 2, SEO work needs to begin in order to start moving your site up the rankings as well as your social media platforms being chosen and created.

Phase 3: Social Media Optimization and Multimedia Marketing

Social Media Optimization & Multimedia Marketing

The final phase is the most fun because this is where you will reap the fruits of you labor. So, you've built your central platform, picked your social media and have begun optimizing your SEO. Now it's time to leverage your hard work and begin scaling! To optimize your social media, you can't just say "I want to have 100,000 followers". Benchmarks will be necessary. For example, the first benchmark I recommend is 500 followers/likes, then 1000, then 5000, etc. For more information on how to grow your social media, click here.

Next is multimedia marketing. By doing this correctly, it will jump-start your site and help your SEO while also getting your businesses name out there. Just like choosing your central platform, I recommend you sit down and map out what your goals and objectives. If you skip the planning, you will be overwhelmed with a bunch of agencies throwing different terms and promises your way. Some things to consider are: what platforms do you want to advertise on?, What is your budget?, and How aggressive do you want your advertisements to be? Final Thoughts...

The world of websites, social media, multimedia marketing, and SEO work can be a confusing one. Not only this, but most businesses have said they just don't have the time to even work on the digital side. However, by putting your strategy together and knowing there are only 3 phases that you need-to-know, it can become easier to plan ahead. The SEO, social media optimization, and multimedia marketing will be an ongoing process.

You will constantly have to tweak things to make sure your money is being spent effectively. There will be a lot of agencies who will promise massive results so remember the old adage, "if it sounds too good to be true..." .
